First Solar Installations

BLOG Posts

Renaissance Roofing, Inc. is proud to announce that in April we installed our first two Timberline HDZ solar roof systems in Canton and Farmington Hills! We were one of the first solar roofs expected to be connected to the DTE Energy grid in Michigan. Once the solar roofs were installed, electricians then completed the electrical connections in the home, obtained municipal approval, and then waited for DTE to approve connections to their grid. A meter is installed at your residence, which will provide real-time data showing energy savings at any given time through the use of a homeowner website portal.

What are the benefits of home solar energy?

GAF HDZ Timberline solar roofs can produce electricity at a lower cost than your utility company and can even pay for itself with its energy savings. They are designed to be operated in connection with the electric grid. When factoring in the benefits of net metering and government incentives that help pay for solar, you can end up saving money in the long run.

In an article from the Detroit Free Press, DTE Energy filed an electric rate increase in March 2024 that, if approved, will increase the average monthly energy bill by $11 per household. By investing in a solar roof, it can help offset the rising rates of electric bills. Furthermore, GAF promises homeowners that if they do not break even in five years of having a solar roof, they will be reimbursed for the difference in their energy bill, making a solar roof a risk-free option. GAF is confident that homeowners will achieve 100% savings, as we have seen through our first installations.

GAF Timberline Solar Roofing

A GAF Energy solar roofing representative stated, “We’re half the cost of a Tesla solar roof, but we are in line with traditional solar rack-mounted solar. And this really makes the decision for a homeowner who is thinking about going solar very easy to get a solar roof—it’s a superior product.”

The GAF Timberline Solar Roof became the world’s most awarded solar shingle in January 2023, receiving more than 30 honors and awards since its introduction, making it one of the most innovative residential solar products on the market. It is the only roof system that directly integrates solar technology into traditional roofing processes and materials.
After Renaissance Roofing, Inc. provides you with an estimate for your new solar roof, the next step is to compare your home’s specific energy bill to the solar panel layout on your roof to determine the best offset of energy usage, aiming for as much offset as possible at the lowest price point. By using a homeowner’s unique energy usage bill, we can get an exact savings usage report.

By including a GAF Energy Solar Max Limited warranty, GAF warrants that in the first year after installation, the actual power in the aggregate will be no less than 98% of the original power output specified for your home. If the aggregate power output is less than 98%, GAF will either (a) pay you the full reasonable cost of labor to repair or replace any defective solar panels, (b) provide your home with additional solar panels to reach the 98% power generation goal, or (c) refund the difference between the 98% power generation goal and your actual percentage utilized. This shows that GAF is confident that homeowners will reach 98% utilization on their solar roofing systems.

Our First Solar Installations

Below is an in-progress photo of our first solar installation, with our superintendent and foreman standing on the first few rows of solar shingles. These energy shingles lay flat on the roof and tie into your asphalt shingles. They are durable enough for extreme weather conditions and can be stood on. See our photos below of the completed projects!
