Workmanship is just as important as the materials

Our motto “It Takes More Than Just Shingles to Make A Roof” proved itself on the home in the photo above taken in Canton. This is a newly installed roof with new materials that were not installed correctly, as you can see in the photo, the shingles are sliding off from poor installation.

Who completes the installation of your new roof is the most important decision you will make during this process and the biggest obstacle between you and a successful roofing project is choosing the right contractor to do the work.

If the contractor simply does a poor job — improperly installing roof shingles, for instance — homeowners insurance likely won’t rectify the situation because a standard policy typically excludes faulty or inadequate workmanship from its protections.

Protect yourself from situations like this by selecting a contractor who is licensed, insured, factory certified and has proven themselves in your community by completing quality projects.

Post-Installation Inspection & Warranty Registration

Question: What should I do after the roof is installed?

  • Walk the roof perimeter with your contractor (from ground level) for final review.
  • Request all warranty documentation (manufacturer and workmanship).
  • Register your warranty with the manufacturer (often the contractor does this on your behalf). Manufacturers like GAF highlight this as part of a proper system installation. GAF
  • Take photos of the new roof for insurance records.
  • Review maintenance instructions: cleaning gutters, trimming overhanging branches, and checking attic ventilation.
